About Assisted Human Reproduction Center Mitrotis
Dr. Nikolaos Th. Manias studied medicine under scholarships at the Universities of Athens, Greece, and Sheffield, UK. He graduated Cum Laude in 1977.He specialised in Obstetrics-Gynecology and Gynecological Endocrinology and Infertility (1982-1987). He has authored, co-authored and presented several scientific papers in International and Greek Meetings, he has given numerous lectures at Seminars sponsored by the Society of Hellenic Gynecological Endocrinology as well as post-graduate courses in Gynecology. He is founder as well as Director of the "Center for Assisted Human Reproduction MITROTIS", which includes a complete program of IN VITRO FERTILISATION (IVF) and INTRACYTOPLASMIC SPERM INJECTION (ICSI). Complete program of preparation of the couple for a successful IVF, ovulation induction, ovum retrieval and fertilisation (Modern Laboratory of Assisted Human Fertilisation, IVF), embryo transfer, observation of the success of implantation. The In Vitro Fertilisation nowadays has high rates of success, which at our Center are 48-50% per embryo transfer for women under 37 years old, regardless of cause of subfertility, and smaller rates of success for women older than 38 years of age. In cases of oligoasthenospermia or azoospermia a revolutionary solution for any problem of male subfertility is applied. Today, with this method (ICSI), any type of sperm regardless of count, motility, vitality, or morphology can fertilise. The rates of success of the method are very high (as in the conventional in Vitro Fertilisation) and several hundred of children have already been born at our Center. If the sperm has no spermatozoa (complete azoospermia) even then we can achieve fertilisation with the method ICSI, receiving spermatozoa from the testicles with a simple and painless puncture (Testicular Sperm Extraction, TESE).
